How I Discovered the Power of Stories
Early in my sales career, I noticed that even great businesses were losing deals because their brochures often ended up in the bin.
Then, in one crucial meeting, I shared a simple story about how my company had helped a client save hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Immediately, the mood changed. People leaned forward. They listened.
That's when I realised stories cut through the noise—they're more persuasive than even the best sales pitches.
The Method That Changed My Life
I first developed this storytelling method at the age of 24, when I launched my first business in partnership with Australia's oldest media group, J.B. Fairfax.
We produced magazines that were distributed in newspapers like The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, with print runs of 700,000 copies.
As a young entrepreneur, I didn't have the financial resources needed to start this venture. But by using carefully crafted stories, I secured complete financial backing from Fairfax Media—one of Australia’s most established media companies.
I learned through trial and error (often more error than success) how senior executives and boards respond to stories rather than sales pitches. Once I refined this approach, doors began opening everywhere.
